A Deacon/ess at Sunset Community Church is a compassionate servant-leader dedicated to extending Christ’s love through acts of mercy and practical care. This role focuses on meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the congregation and the wider community, particularly the hurting, marginalized, or underserved. They will collaborate with church leadership to ensure a ministry of mercy that reflects the gospel in action.
We see qualifications set out for those would serve in this role both in the precursor to Deacons, Acts 6:1-6, and later as the early church starts to form more fully, in 1 Timothy 3:8-13. In these cases the church recognized who they believed fit these qualifications and also already demonstrated the gifts, character, and competency to serve in this way. The individuals were then brought to the pastoral leadership for confirmation. At Sunset Community Church we desire to follow a similar process.
You can use the form below to nominate godly men and women from our church to serve in this way.
